Sunpower offers all cryocooler models for use in spaceflight applications. Compared to our commercial products, when built for spaceflight each unit undergoes a much more rigorous level of processing to ensure a maximum level of efficiency, reliability, and performance in the extreme environment of space.
Spaceflight cryocoolers are built separately from the commercial cryocoolers, with increased scrutiny of the cleanliness, longer performance testing at a wider range of parameters, and many added quality controls. This added processing on top of the already efficient and reliable designs of Sunpower Cryocoolers upgrades any of our standard models to a new "-S" in their model name, such as the CryoTel CT-S or the CryoTel DS30-S, to designate SPACEFLIGHT.
Sunpower is perfectly positioned to meet the increasing demands of the spaceflight market, being able to produce higher quantities faster and at a lower price than more traditional spaceflight cryocoolers.
The CryoTel CT-S, MT-S, and DS Mini are all TRL9 with successful flight heritage. The CryoTel GT-S is expected to be TRL9 in 2025, and the DS30 has been flight-quailified and delivered to a program of record.
Over 230 successful launches of Sunpower spaceflight cryocoolers have occurred as of 2024, with over 525,000 hours of operation. As part of a cold stowage product transporting samples back and forth from the Internation Space Station, several cryocoolers have endured over 10 launches.

Spaceflight cryocoolers
